Once upon a time there was a little girl and she just didn't know what to do. Then she decided to start to paint, and she painted these really, really pretty little flowers and they made her feel not so blue. She painted them red, yellow and blue. As the years passed she didn't paint anymore, she didn't paint those flowers in red, yellow and blue.
One day the little girl was no longer a little girl, the little girl had grown up to be a lovely young lady, and she still didn't know what to do. So one day she started to paint those beautiful flowers in red, yellow and blue. She painted trees and elephants, dogs and owls that go who. Now she'd discovered that she can use other colors too...Pinks and purples and turquoise like the sea. Colors like emeralds and rubies and sapphires have set her free. Her paintings are brilliant and so full of life. When people see them they become cheery and playful and they start to dream. How wonderful it is to create, create with words, create with color, create with brushes, create with motion. So the girl who became the lovely young lady who painted in red, yellow and blue, is now painting in every color you can imagine - it's true. She paints cards and towels and book covers so new, she paints puzzles and tiles and invitations for you.
So when you're feeling a little blue, find something that you can create with your heart, be it singing or dancing, writing, or playing with clue. Just remember to be yourself and your dreams will come true.
This poem and painting were created in 2001 after the fall of the Twin Towers |
