A B O U T    T H E    A R T I S T  

 

I started painting many years ago, perhaps 1989. At first it was hobby. I would copy master paintings, plus lots of folk art and botanicals, just trying different styles using Acrylics. Then I stopped painting for a number of years. It's funny how life takes over and you get busy and you forget about the things you love. I was in Colorado at that time and owned a Gourmet Food store. I just didn't have time to paint. Then we moved to Florida where I really did not want to go back to the Gourmet Food Business. So I started to embark on watercolor classes in 1999 and this is where my love of painting really took hold.  In March 2001, I suffered a serious illness, which put me in a position  to decide what was important in my life, at that time, my work was very structured, detailed and colorful. The process was challenging and I always felt there was something more in me that I could not express using this style. In 2008 my art took a radical turn and my goal was to not have a goal. The results have been so inspirational that now I am truly very raw level. Most of the time I am surprised by the color and style of my paintings. People comment on my vibrant use of color. I have believed that "Art is about discovery and following you heart". So the journey continues. Mostly I work with Acrylics but lately I have started using ink, oils  and other media in my work. As I progress with this new style I find that the art has many stories to tell. Each person has their own story about what they see in the paintings I create. It's the kind of work that speaks to you more the longer you look at it. I want to leave it to the viewer to find their own story in my work and let what speaks to them shine through.
